At the rise of the first century the Romans tried to occupy Magna Germania without lasting success. In year 9AD, the conquest reached its pinnacle with the terrible defeat of the Roman forces in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest and later lead to the construction of the huge defence wall Limes.
