Husk for PC is a first-person perspective survival horror inspired by such classic series as Alan Wake, Silent Hill, and Alone in the Dark. The game is co-developed by a small Polish studio UndeadScout and IMGN.PRO team – the authors of a warmly-received horror Kholat.
Plot
The plot is based in a beautiful, yet mysterious town Shivercliff that brings to mind the place of action in the Twin Peaks series by David Lynch. During gameplay you assume the role of Matthew Palmer, who strives to find his lost family after a train wreck. The quest turns out to be more difficult than it had originally seemed, as the town cut off from the world is very similar to Silent Hill, where evil lurks around every corner and the border between nightmare and reality constantly blurs. Each step further into the town is at the same time a step inside the hero’s soul – he struggles with his own past and demons waiting for the right moment.
Mechanics
Mechanics in Husk feature aspects typical for horrors, but in contrast to the titles mentioned before, the action in this production is seen from the first-person perspective, which enables you to connect with the hero even more closely. Gameplay primarily concentrates on exploration and puzzle-solving, which unravel another elements of the plot and Shivercliff’s dark mysteries. There are loads of opportunities for fighting and while doing so, you can use both your fists and firearms. Delivered in much more easy to follow format than in Kholat - the former production by IMGN.PRO – the interesting and rich in details story is strongly emphasised.
Technical aspects
The game published on PC utilises advanced Unreal Engine 4, which guarantees amazing visuals. However, you will not see beautiful details, as Shivercliff is a gloomy and unwelcoming town cloaked in mist, in which the dominating greyness is sometimes interrupted by redness of the spilled blood. The dark style is complemented with an atmospheric soundtrack created by Arkadiusz Reikowski – the author responsible for music in games like Kholat and Layers of Fear.
