Mechanics

HumanitZ starts off with creating our character, setting up their appearance and their profession before the apocalypse (which affects our available perks). The game's world is open and freely explorable. We can use vehicles to make travel and resource transporting easier, but we must keep them in a good condition and watch out for fuel.

Depending on what we prefer, we can either hide in cities or settle down far away from the former civilization. In cities we'll focus on scavenging buildings, using lockpicks and crowbars, while in the countryside we'll need to farm, hunt or fish. Regardless of our choice, we must gather weapons (baseball bats, pistols, rifles), craft tools and produce food to avoid starvation.

After meeting our basic needs, we'll then look for shelter and fortify it, protecting ourselves from changing weather, bandits and the undead. The zombies come in different forms - some are only dangerous in groups, others are surprisingly agile, intelligent or have special abilities, such as wielding toxic fumes. We must therefore adapt our strategy depending on what kind of enemy we're facing.

Game modes

HumanitZ supports solo play and online co-op for up to four players. For those desiring an extra challenge, the game also features optional permadeath.
