Home Sweet Home Description
Home Sweet Home for PC is a first-person perspective horror developed by YGGDRAZIL GROUP, a studio founded in Bangkok.
Plot
The game has the atmosphere of Asian horror movies like The Grudge, Shutter and The Ring series. It is based on folklore and beliefs of the citizens of Thailand. During the game the player assumes the role of Tim, a man who tries to return to regular life after his wife died a few years earlier in mysterious circumstances. One night, the depressed man wakes up to discover that he is in a completely new place. In order to leave the labyrinth of abandoned rooms, he must face angry souls connected to that place and he must solve the mystery hidden among the collapsing walls.
Mechanics
Interactions of players with the surroundings in Home Sweet Home for PC are similar to ones present in Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Alien: Isolation. Timothy must constantly hide among the surroundings. Otherwise he becomes the victim of the woman in blood who is lurking through the corridors. In the meantime the player must solve riddles and find items that enable him or her to move further – for example a key can open the door guarded by the monster and a crowbar enables the player to reach the corridor under the floor. Sometimes the player will also encounter more challenging riddles.
Technical aspects
As in the majority of horror games, the developers focused on the atmosphere of their game. The levels in Home Sweet Home for PC look like they were deserted a long time ago and are filled with dirt and dust. Adequate lighting system – a thing that is very important in horror games – is worth praising. The light is cold and it provides unpleasant, hospital-like tune. The strong light contrasts dark corners that become even more scary thanks to that.
Although the game originally wasn’t compatible with virtual reality goggles, the developer provided a support for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive in an update released in February 2018.
