Highrise City Description
Highrise City is a strategy game, combining a city builder and a tycoon game with heavy economic and resource management mechanics. It's the debut game of Fourexo Entertainment. It was published by the German company Deck13 Interactive, also responsible for publishing such games as Holomento and CrossCode. The full release of Highrise City was scheduled for September 2023, while its early access began in March 2023.
Plot
The game doesn't feature a story per se, though its story mode does contain many objectives to fulfill.
Mechanics
Though the game resembles other city builders, like Cities: Skylines, it's much more complex economically. Its resource management and transport mechanics are reminiscent of Anno 1800.
The game contains 30 basic buildings, each created city being home to over 30,000 structures which can be adjusted to our needs and preferences through the in-game design mode. In order to create a structure, we need cash and resources. There are over 60 of those, used both in construction and trade. Some can be acquired by recycling waste.
The game's primary mechanic are production chains - to create a bustling megacity, we must manage it properly. We create new buildings and take care of the community, fulfilling its needs and whims. Largest cities can fit even forty million people at once. To further optimize our playstyle, we can also pass laws, conduct research or trade with other cities.
Highrise City is integrated with the Steam Workshop, while mod support lets us implement our own unique buildings and streets. This ensures our city will have a unique look, which can then be shared with other players.
The game also includes adjustable difficulty levels both for beginners and advanced players, five different population classes and four construction modes.
Technical aspects
Highrise City features appealing, 3D visuals and runs on the Unreal Engine 4. The available maps, each with their own difficult level, were created based on actual geographical regions, such as New York City, Vancouver and Rio. The game's massive areas reach up to 196 square kilometers and their complexity can be adapted through eight different parameters.
There's lots of micro animations which make our cities that much more lively. Thousands of vehicles and pedestrians traverse the streets at all times - the game can display up to 15,000 cars and 20,000 people at once.
