Hex: Shards of Fate Description
Hex: Shards of Fate for PC is a fantasy card game enriched by MMORPG elements. The game was developed by Cryptozoic Entertainment, a team responsible for numerous successful board games, and a highly rated card game World of Warcraft Trading Card Game.
Plot
The game is set in a fantasy world known as Entrath. A long time ago, it was inhabited by numerous nations, waging small wars between each other, while magic was a rare phenomenon. All of this has changed with the arrival of Hex – a huge meteorite consisting of mysterious crystals. The meteorite has pierced through the planet, with the created holes changing to huge volcanoes. Finally, Hex was caught by the gravity field, and began to circle as a satellite around Entrath. On the planet’s surface, countless crystal shards had been left over, allowing every owner to practice magic. Thanks to those powers, respective nations began dynamic growth, eventually leading to a great war between them.
When the game commences, nations of Entrath are divided into two factions. The first of them is Ardent, which includes humans, elves, orcs and a race of humanoidal coyotes known as Coyotle. The other side of the conflict is Underworld – its ranks include dwarfs, undead, Shin’hare – aggressive humanoidal hares, and species called Veneen, which are a combination of orcs and spiders. All of this data is just a taste of the rich world prepared by the authors. Hex: Shards of Fate offers a very extensive story layer – Entrath, as well as the nations inhabiting it, have their own stories and beliefs.
Mechanics
Hex: Shards of Fate for PC combines mechanics of card games and MMORPGs. Combat plays out in a style known from card games, so the players collect their own decks, containing, among others, heroes, items and effects, and then utilize them during clashes. As the cards are virtual, certain solutions are present, which are not possible in paper games, like equipping cards with gems, providing certain bonuses, or using the transmuting powers of heroes. Aside from that, each card gathers experience points, and advances to next levels. All of that is presented in MMORPG style – at the beginning of the game, we create our champion, choosing between eight races and six classes. After that, we explore the world, undertake tasks, explore massive dungeons, take part in raids and gather gold and equipment. The ability to face other players and the possibility of establishing a guild are also present.
