Hero's Hour

Hero's Hour is an independent strategy game with RPG elements, which is played partly in turn-based system and partly in real time. It was developed by one person: Banjamin "ThingOnItsOwn" Hauer.

Game mechanics

The action in the game is observed from an isometric view, and the whole thing was realized in 2D perspective. Our goal is to develop our hero through exploration and battling with enemies, thanks to which we also gain the resources needed to develop our city and army. The whole takes place on procedurally generated maps. The process of generating content also applies to the scenarios we will face, so it is impossible to conduct two the same campaigns.

At the very beginning, we choose the faction we will lead in a game. There are 11 in total and each has both unique strengths and unique weaknesses. These factions have their own units (177 types in total) and are commanded by heroes, divided into 22 classes. We explore available locations in a way similar to Heroes of Might and Magic III, by clicking on an interesting place, a resource to collect or a group of enemies to defeat. During the exploration we can come across many special obelisks, giving us new goals to achieve in side missions. Their goal is to encourage us to explore various corners of the large map. This part of the game is turn-based, while the battles themselves take place in real time. Hundreds of soldiers take part in them, to whom we give orders and support them with special spells. The action is really rapid, so the situation on the battlefield can change suddenly if we do not keep watch over everything.
