Hello Exo is a strategy sim about colonizing an alien planet. It was developed by the independent studio Weasel Games.

Plot

Hello Exo takes place in a rather bleak future. In 2072, Earth has finally become inhospitable and incapable of supporting life. The lucky few were hibernated in special capsules halting their aging process and located on a mighty ship orbiting the once-blue planet. The ship was to be sent out on a mission to colonize a different planet. Unfortunately, its jump drive has been damaged, meaning it can't jump into hyperspace to instantly reach its destination.

Our objective is to fix the damaged ship, take care of the hibernating colonists and prepare the distant planet for colonization. While doing so, we're assisted by an advanced Artificial Intelligence.

Mechanics

The gameplay of Hello Exo consists of two layers: the colony ship and the alien planet, which we can reach aboard a smaller craft.

Most of the time is spent on the planet, where we learn about its qualities and natural resources. These let us build our first base and later expand it.

Meanwhile, on the ship, we must take care of the hibernated crew by providing them with substances necessary for their survival. We can also use the resources acquired off the planet to research new technologies and fix the ship's jump drive.

Though our efforts are supposed to create a new home for humanity, as we progress we also learn more about what exactly happened on Earth. We can also make sure did our planet genuinely has turned into a barren wasteland.
