Haunted Space is a debut game of Italian Games Factory studio. We play the role of a spaceship pilot exploring undiscovered depths of Neterun galaxy. During the adventure player discovers ancient buildings, trades, upgrades his ship and fights with huge monsters.

Plot

The game takes place in the distant future. Humanity has mastered space travel technology and is expanding its influence in the universe by establishing colonies. One of them is located in the Neterun galaxy. There they have discovered an extremely valuable resource, so-called Sonic Matter, which is a powerful source of energy. To obtain this resource a Metal Mother Facility was built. However, it soon turns out that the seemingly empty galaxy is not deserted at all. It is populated by the ghosts of the inhabitants of an ancient, fallen civilisation, deeply unhappy with the presence of humans. The player assumes the role of a pilot in the service of the Human Empire. His task is to discover the secrets of the galaxy and survive encounters with the wraiths.

Mechanics

The gameplay is about steering our ship, discovering new places, trading goods, buying better equipment and fighting for survival. We observe the ship from the cockpit or from the third person perspective. Visiting new star systems, we receive tasks for which we are rewarded with money, resources or equipment. While exploring, we find the remains of the galaxy's former inhabitants and discover their story. The Neterun galaxy is a dangerous place. We often come across hostile ship pilots, with whom we have to fight. In the worst cases we can meet a wraith, taking the form of a partly organic, partly mechanical beast. These wraiths are the bosses, with whom we have to fight complex, intense and multi-stage battles.

The game allows us to modify the accessibility settings. We can control our ship in a complex and simulated way or choose a simpler, more arcade-like control scheme. If we choose the highest level of assistance, the game will also become accessible to the blind and visually impaired.

Game modes

In Haunted Space we can play only solo.

Technical aspects

Graphics in Haunted Space presents a very high level. The designs of ships and enemies are impressive in style. The lighting effects are also attractive. The game has optional support for ray tracing.
