Hard Reset: Redux for PC, PS4 and XONE is an improved editon of Hard Reset - a cyberpunk first person shooter released in 2011 as a PC exclusive. Both the original and the improved editions were developed by Flying Wild Hog, a studio popular mainly for the well-received remake of the classic Shadow Warrior. The developing team consisted mainly of former members of People Can Fly - a crew once famous mainly for the Painkiller and Bulletstorm – a shooter published by Electronic Arts. Contrary to the original game, Hard Reset: Redux received both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One editions.
Plot
In terms of the plot, Hard Reset: Redux for PC, PS4 and XONE does not differ from the original game. Thus the action is set in a grim world of the future, when the planet has been almost entirely conquered by merciless robots, who were the cause behind the human civilization collapsing, turning subsequent regions into infertile wastelands. When the machines try to take control over the Sanctuary network containing billions of digitalized human minds, the CLN military corporation decides to take action and sends Major Fletcher - a war veteran whose task is to face the dangerous enemy and fight for the future of the human species. This will take place in the city of Beozar, which is the last human outpost standing.
Mechanics
Hard Reset: Redux for PC, PS4 and XONE is based on the mechanics of the original game (and the previously mentioned titles developed by People Can Fly), focusing on fast-paced combat giving an opportunity to confront hordes of enemies (extremely powerful bosses as well) and eliminate them in a brutal and spectacular way. The game is played from the first person perspective and the player makes use of a massive number of weapons, including mainly a multifunctional rifle which appeared first in the original game; a futuristic cannon; and the cyber-katana, which completely new. It is a perfect weapon to use against a new type of enemies, the so-called cyber-zombies. The last feature this improved edition brings is the ability to perform quick dodges, which is incredibly useful while fighting a larger group of enemies.
Hard Reset: Redux offers both the contents of the original game and the Exile DLC released nearly a year after the original game. The expansion features new levels and enemies, including another powerful boss to defeat.
Game modes
Similar to the original game, Hard Reset: Redux does not feature any multiplayer mode and focuses entirely on the single-player campaign instead. Apart from this main part of the game, the player can put their skills to the test in the survival mode, in which one is supposed to defeat subsequent waves of incoming enemies.
Technical aspects
Hard Reset: Redux utilizes the latest version of the RoadHog engine used in production of the original game. As a result, the upgraded edition features both better lighting and improved special effects. Particular difficulty levels were re-balanced, loading periods were shortened and the general pace of the gameplay was increased even more. Additionally, Hard Reset: Redux allows quick-saving, which was not possible in the original game.
