Hammerwatch II is a pixelated open world hack'n'slash. It was developed by Crackshell, featuring 2D visuals and a top-down view. The game tasks us with facing an army of monsters, both alone and in co-op.
Plot
Evil has triumphed in the land of Herian. King Roland has been overthrown by conspirators, while his lands have been invaded by an evil draconic army led by Blight the Horrible. The kingdom's last hope is the resistance hiding in the sewers. At the behest of their ruler, the adventurers set out to defeat the enemy and save Herian.
Mechanics
In Hammerwatch II we play as a hero answering the king's call - we traverse the open world, fight hordes of enemies, face massive bosses and help those in need. We start the game by choosing one of the five available character classes (Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, Wizard, Warlock). Each class has a different skillset, equips different gear and has a different combat strategy. Combat is dynamic, requiring players to keep moving, dodge attacks and use their abilities.
The player uses tools, consumes meals to provide their character with stat bonuses and drinks magic potions. Some of them can be brewed on our own, using items gathered during the game. The Kingdom of Herian is an open world, featuring locations such as the underground of Hammerwatch Castle, Hammer Island and Blackbarrow Mountains.
Just like in the first game, we don't have to be alone on our quest. Hammerwatch II features online co-op for up to four people.
