Hammerfight is the work of Russian game designer Konstantin Koshutin. The game was recognized as one of the most interesting independent productions of 2009, winning a number of prestigious awards, including nominations for the Seumas McNally Grand Prize and Independent Game Festival 2008.

Hammerfight's plot shows the fate of one of the last members of the Gaiar tribe, a race hardened in battles with giant worms. After his people are destroyed, the heros are taken prisoner, where they are forced to fight in the arenas. One of the opponents turns out to be an old friend of the main character's father. The rivals join forces to bring about the fall of the cruel emperor who ordered the annihilation of the Gaiars.

The basis of the game are exciting duels. Small flying vehicles, armed with combat hammers, axes, swords and crankshaws (sometimes also firearms), take part in them. Combat mechanics is based on an advanced physics engine. The weapon is attached inertly to the machine, and the strength and accuracy of the blow depend on the ability to manoeuvre (rocking, acceleration, stopping, etc.) using a computer mouse. During the game, you can change your weaponry or modify it based on the magical gems you gain.
