The action of Guy Spy and the Crystals of Armageddon takes place during World War II. Baron Von Max, a mad scientist unreservedly devoted to the Third Reich, tries to construct a mysterious machine that would help the Nazi army win. In order to complete the work, he needs a few extremely rare crystals, which is why he sends his soldiers to search for them. At this point you, the player, enter the action. As a well-trained commando in the service of Her Majesty's Royal Highness, you will fly to Berlin and begin a mission to thwart the Baron's plans.
The program created by ReadySoft Incorporated atfirst glance resembles other proposals of the studio, namely Dragon's Lair series and Space Ace. As in those productions, we are dealing here with high quality animated film, which is interrupted by numerous arcade sections. However, the similarities end there, because in Guy Spy and the Crystals of Armageddon the elements characteristic for action games are much more extensive.
Already in the first sequence, which takes place in the tunnel of the Berlin Underground, we will notice significant differences. Pressing the appropriate keys at certain moments, as was the case in Dragon's Lair or Space Ace, does not work here. The player must concentrate the fire of the machine gun on opponents standing on the other side, directing the viewfinder with the help of cursors. Due to the fact that the strength of our commando is limited and the number of enemies is still increasing, it is also necessary to use evanes. After completing the first section, we move to the next one, and in the meantime we watch a fragment of a skillfully produced animated film. Apart from shooting fights in Guy Spy and the Crystals of Armageddon, there is a fight with mummy, a crazy escape in the cabin of a cable car, where we are forced to avoid the enemy's fire travelling in a second carriage, or skiing downhill in Switzerland, where various obstacles will accumulate on the hero's way. In total, the program offers thirteen different stages, maybe not too long, but very difficult.
While the visual setting of the game does not arouse much concern (ReadySoft Incorporated has accustomed players to high-end animation), so in the case of sound is already much worse. Pompatible music becomes annoying after just a dozen or so seconds of fun, especially when the player is forced to repeat the selected scene over and over again. Also, the issue of control was not well thought out - the hero reacts very slowly to the commands given, which makes completing even the first mission seem unfeasible. Fortunately, the creators have given up the limit of "living", so that we can repeat every scene to the end.
