Gunship 2000 PC

Gunship 2000 is a refreshed and greatly improved version of the Apache AH-64A helicopter, popular in the second half of the eighties. The game allows you to sit at the controls of not one but a few canons and lead them to battle in both Central Europe and the Persian Gulf region.

Compared to the original, MicroProse developers have made some interesting changes. The most important of them is, of course, the number of helicopters, of which there are seven: AH-64A Apache, AH-64B Longbow, OH-58D Kiowa Warrior, UH-60K/L Blackhawk, AH-1W Cobra, AH-66A Comanche and MD530G Defender. The branch you are going to join will consist of five pilots and thus as many machines. As if that wasn't enough, before each mission you can choose any helicopter from the currently available, which means that individual missions can be played in different ways multiple times. Of course, the canoness cannot function without a weapon, so the authors have made sure that you have it in abundance and of various types.

Both areas (Central Europe and Persian Gulf) have been divided into three separate zones, each representing an area of 800 square kilometres. The huge, fully three-dimensional terrain has a positive influence on the joy of the skies, as well as the variety of the missions themselves, which not only do not have to play in the already known territory, but are also randomly generated before each start of the struggle. MicroProse has also taken care of a very good flight model, taking into account the correct representation of the movement of the virtual helicopter in the air. Depending on whether the player is a fanatic of realism or just wants to shoot himself, he can freely interfere with the helicopter's flying options (facilitated avionics, no possibility of destroying the vehicle during landing, switching off gusts of wind, etc.). Before each mission, it is also possible to change the training of enemy pilots by setting one of the levels on a four-level scale.

Gunship 2000 is a worthy successor to the cult prototype. Significantly improved audio-visual setting has a positive effect on the aesthetic experience, and the improved engine allows for completely new possibilities, e.g. recording of footage during the action. What is more interesting, the latter option is not limited only to our helicopter - you can record any object during the mission and then analyze its behavior from several cameras. Although experienced simulator enthusiasts will also find slight disadvantages here, Gunship 2000 is certainly one of the most interesting simulators of a helicopter that saw the light of day in the early 1990s.
