Gunlord X is a classic two-dimensional combination of platform and shoot 'em up games, in which players fight their way through hordes of cosmic enemies. The game was developed by is the German studio NG:DEV.TEAM established in 2001. The team specializes in productions for retro consoles. Gunlord X was originally released in 2012 on SNK Neo Geo and Dreamcast systems.

Mechanics

Gunlord X is an extremely fast and dynamic combination of platform and classic shoot em' up games. During the game players assume the role of the titular Gunlord, trying to save his wife and defeat the cosmic monsters that kidnapped her. The game consists of two segments. In the first one players freely explore large two-dimensional platform boards, full of alternative paths and secrets. They are fighting more than sixty types of opponents here, using various types of firearms. In the second segment players pilot a spacecraft in the format known from horizontal arcade space shooters. There are also duels with huge bosses waiting for the players. In total, Gunlord X offers eleven levels and several difficulty levels.

Technical aspects

Gunlord X has high quality two-dimensional visuals in a classic 16-bit style. The sprites of the characters surprise with a large number of details and rich animations. The game is accompanied by an intensive electronic soundtrack. The image in the game is displayed at a steady speed of 60 frames per second.
