Gunhouse
Crazy two-dimensional puzzle game combining the features of match-3 titles with tower defense productions. The creators of Gunhouse have prepared numerous bosses, as well as randomly generated levels filled with dangerous enemies, which we shoot with many types of weapons.
Gunhouse is a colorful combination of a match-3 puzzles with a tower defense. The game was developed by Necrosoft Games, an independent American studio. The game was released in 2014 on PlayStation Vita and was only available in the short lived PlayStation Mobile program, which closed in 2015. When the production was withdrawn from sale, developers moved it to mobile devices (Android and iOS), introducing numerous improvements to the gameplay. In 2018, developers made and published a port for a new version of the game on consoles, including PlayStation Vita.
Mechanics
The gameplay rules are extremely simple - the mechanics use elements known from tower defense games and logical puzzles. On the right side of the screen the creators placed a board with sliding square blocks. Our goal is to combine as many of them as possible and then move them to the left side, where they turn into one of several types of weapons depending on the colors of the blocks. We have only 18 seconds for this task. After this time, the board resets itself and we start a new puzzle.
Our positions are attacked by waves of monsters. If they come close to our positions, they deplete our health points; lose all of them and the game will be over. Defeated enemies leave gold, for which we buy upgrades, power-ups and unlock new weapons. In addition to standard enemies, we will also face large bosses with unique abilities.
Game modes
Gunhouse only offers a single player mode. In addition to the campaign, we can also play in the standard mode, which has an infinite number of randomly generated levels, as well as in the so-called hardcore mode, which makes it difficult to play by blocking access to many options, including the shop with power-ups.
Technical aspects
Gunhouse has an extremely colorful two-dimensional graphic design, characterized by surrealistic designs of opponents and spectacular special effects. The electronic music track was composed by Disasterpeace, an artist who also worked on the very well received Fez.
