After a few years of silence, here comes yet another installment in the popular fighting series Guilty Gear developed by Arc System Works. The game’s biggest feature is the use of Unreal Engine which supports 1080p, along with 3D backgrounds and 3D character models. The latter, implemented as a modified cel-shading style, strongly resembles original, two-dimensional sprites.

Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- Description
After a few years of silence, Guilty Hear Xrd -SIGN- released on PC, PS3 and etc. is yet another instalment in the fighting series Guilty Gear. Apart from the continuation of the plot, the game offers a brand new, revolutionary graphics engine. The game marks the 25th anniversary of Japanese Arc System Works – the fathers of the series. Once more, the publisher is Daisuke Ishiwatari, the originator of Guilty Gear, who is also responsible for the rock soundtrack.
Plot
The plot serves as a continuation of the story from the previous instalments. The action is set in the distant future, i.e. 2187. There are a few chapters reserved for both completely new and old characters. The cut-scenes between battles adopt a visual-novel style.
Mechanics
The mechanics of Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- do not differ significantly from the series’ usual approach. Apart from the new technology and engine, just like in Street Fighter IV, the players fight on two-dimensional foregrounds with three-dimensional, lively backgrounds. Being very simple, the rules are additionally explained in a tutorial laying down all basic fighting games terms and clarifying each game system. Each of the 17 characters has an enormous set of moves and special attacks. However, carrying out powerful combos requires much practice, memorising complex button combinations, and reflexes, as each move can be countered or stopped by the opponent.
Game modes
Apart from the single-player campaign and single battles, the player can take part in the series of battles in the arcade mode, and also enjoy graphics, music, and audio clips acquired during gameplay. Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- also offers a wide range of multiplayer modes. Apart from regular online fights, you can also take part in ranked clashes and try to reach the top of online rankings.
Technical aspects
Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign- for PC, PS3 and etc. is not only the first in the series to support 1080p, but also the first to introduce 3D backgrounds and character models, which replace the 2D sprites used previously. The creators made the best use of Unreal Engine in order to evoke the atmosphere and style of the former instalments. Due to the implementation of cel-shading, the heroes strongly resemble their 2D incarnations. The whole effect reaches even higher level when the camera transits so as to show the action from another angle.
