Grooverider: Slot Car Thunder
A crazy racer where we have the opportunity to personally steer small cars. A wide range of gameplay modes deserves attention. The game also has an easy-to-use built-in track editor.
developer: UDS publisher: Encore Software Inc.
Grooverider: Slot Car Thunder, released on PS2, XBOX and GCN, is a dynamic racing game that combines elements of such games as TrackMania or Re-Volt. The connection with the first of these racing games is seen mainly in the built-in track editor, which allows you to design and then test your tracks. As far as the Re-Volt is concerned, we drive small car models. The game was developed by UDS, the developers of Futurama. Individual editions present a similar level of performance, although the version designed for Microsoft's console looks slightly nicer than its counterparts.
Mechanics
A few dozen different cars are available to the player, which are divided into several basic classes (including Stock Cars GT Sports or Formula X Japanese 24). Power-ups collected by the players are important. Some of them have defensive capabilities. Most of these power-ups, however, are intended to make life difficult for other drivers.
Game modes
Grooverider: Slot Car Thunder offers a very diverse range of gameplay modes. Arcade and Championship modes have been developed with a single player in mind. The championships, in which we take part in a series of races with increasing difficulty, unlock further bonuses. There is also an extensive training mode, thanks to which you can get acquainted with the tracks prepared by the developers. They filled with numerous hills, corkscrews and other objects of this type. In general, the routes are located in five different locations. These are a bedroom, dining room, living room, kitchen and attic. Grooverider also has a simple multiplayer, in which races are played on a split-screen.
Technical aspects
Visually, Groovider doesn't look great. However, the already mentioned editor deserves attention. It is also worth noting that races take place at a truly crazy pace, and this is because the driving model has nothing to do with realism.
