Grimshade Description
Grimshade is an RPG inspired by Japanese representatives of the genre from the nineties of the last century. The game, which saw the light of day thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign, was developed by the independent studio Talerock and published by Asterion Games.
Plot
Grimshade takes us on a journey to a fantasy world called Ree'fah, where people coexist with humanoid animals and magic exists alongside advanced technology. The inhabitants of Brann enjoyed a peaceful life until the surrounding forests were overgrown with various monstrosities and the invading troops of the neighboring kingdom appeared under its walls. To make things even worse, the country's ruler and his loyal champions have disappered.
In the course of the game, we take control of a group of protagonists drawn into the maelstrom of the aformentioned events, such as the sniper named Charlie, the brave Alister or the thief princess Ruby. Learning about their characters and motivations, we gradually discover new elements of the puzzle.
Mechanics
In Grimshade the action was shown in isometric view. Traveling around the diverse corners of Ree'fah, we undertake tasks commissioned by its inhabitants and gradually increase the combat potential of our heroes. The character progression system is based on the skills provided by the acquired equipment - individual elements of armor, accessories, and weapons provide the hero with unique abilities, which can be used on the battlefield; new equipment can be found, bought or created with the help of an extensive crafting system.
An important role in the game is played by turn-based battles against opponents, which take place in separate arenas. In order to succeed, we must not only develop effective tactics against a given opponent but also skillfully juggle the abilities of individual protagonists and take care of their proper positioning. Interestingly, the relations between the protagonists also have an impact on their effectiveness.
Technical aspects
Grimshade's visual sphere can be liked, because the whole thing is kept in a colorful, cartoonish style.
