Continuation of the well-received Formula One Grand Prix (also known as World Circuit), which has won the hearts of gamers with its high realism and excellent driving model, and a huge number of configuration options. Created by Geoff Crammond and Microprose in 1992, the production was hailed as the most advanced computer simulation of Formula 1 races. Its continuation raises the bar even higher.
Grand Prix 2 is based on the memorable for many reasons (including the death of Ayrton Senny) of the '94 season. Thanks to the license purchased by Microprose for all teams, drivers, cars, tracks and records, we can embody one of the 28 real competitors from 14 teams. The game covers all parts of the Formula 1 weekend: two training sessions, two qualifying sessions, a warm-up and a race. The basic mode of the game is the championship mode, which is a simulation of a full season and includes all 16 photorealistic tracks, on which the competition took place in 1994. There is also a quick race option, allowing you to drive through any small part of the race of your choice.
As in the case of the original, the strongest point of Grand Prix 2 is realism. During the race, the car may be damaged or malfunction, which will require a visit to the box to be removed. The creators give us the possibility of detailed setting of many parameters of the car, such as brake balance, gear ratio, spoiler inclination, suspension height, etc. During training and qualification you can see the level of tire wear or generate detailed graphs showing the use of gears, throttle, speed or revolutions in different sections of the track. Less experienced players have also been thought of, and depending on the level of difficulty chosen, a number of facilitations such as automatic transmission, traction control, automatic braking or the indestructibility of the car can be activated or deactivated.
Graphic design makes the most of SVGA graphics cards. Excellent physical engine, 3D model texturing of cars, spectacular and dynamic repetitions and an advanced camera system (including the camera in the middle of the car) make Grand Prix 2 look simply great from the visual side. This, of course, has its consequences in the form of relatively high hardware requirements. In the game there is also implemented multiplayer mode for 2 people, although it is realized in a rather unusual way. During the race, drivers race alternately with computer-controlled cars. The change takes place after a certain number of laps.
