Gran Turismo Mobile for PSP is a mobile edition of the popular PlayStation racing game series. Developed by Polyphony Digital, it features an excellent simulation-oriented driving system, plenty of cars, and may licensed tracks from all over the world.
Mechanics
At first, GT Mobile was supposed to be a replica of the fourth installment of the franchise, but due to the large amount of work concerning Gran Turismo 5, the game was slightly changed. New elements and vehicles have been added, such as e.g. the Italian Ferrari and Lamborghini cars, as well as the legendary F1 racing cars. Apart from the locations known from the main game series, this version also features some that are brand new. You can experience all of this in two available game modes: the realistic and complex career mode, or the entertaining but quite challenging arcade mode.
Just like any other game of the genre, the gameplay of GT Mobile is based on car racing, and there are many kinds of races you can participate in: from the hyper-fast NASCAR races, through gravel rallies, to endurance races such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Victories can be achieved more easily if you upgrade and modify your car and its components. However, to participate in the most challenging races you need special licenses, which you earn as you complete certain tasks, like doing a slalom or performing an emergency braking.
Technical aspects
The most important aspect of Gran Turismo Mobile for PSP the driving system. Despite the rather poor performance of PSP, the game's engine is very similar to that of the PlayStation version. The car behavior is superb, which shouldn't really surprise the fans of the series. Every car has unique engine characteristics as well as a set of pros and cons. The team responsible for this faithful rendering has gathered the necessary information by inspecting their real-life counterparts up close. The game's graphics, despite the small screen, are also exceptional. The game is complemented by a multiplayer mode; to participate in a multiplayer race, every player needs their own copy of the game.
