Gran Turismo 6 Description
Gran Turismo 6 is the next installment of a popular car racing games series, which, as always, was created by Kazunori Yamauchi and the Japanese team at Polyphony Digital Studios. The sixth edition of the series was announced in 2013, and it is also the third one (including Gran Turismo Prologue) released on PlayStation 3. The game is not a mile stone in the history of the franchise, but the developers have introduced many innovations, which although cannot be called revolutionary solutions, should satisfy longtime fans.
Game modes and Mechanics
Gran Turismo 6, like the previous edition of the series, offers several game modes. You can choose from a single race, online play, as well as the career of a driver, which is an equivalent of single player campaigns from other games. Following a string of successes you slowly unlock access to more and more expensive and faster vehicle classes and models, as well as new types of races, challenges, and championships, completion of which is rewarded with cash injection. You can use the money to expand your collection of cars and buy new parts and upgrades.
The game contains all the tracks and cars that appeared in Gran Turismo 6 (including those released as DLC packs). The selection of cars was further expanded with new models, so it consists of up to 1,200 vehicles. It is quite similar regarding the racing tracks. Developers have introduced 7 new locations of various shapes and lengths. A significant novelty is introduction of famous British Silverstone Circuit for the first time in the series. New cars and tracks can be found in DLC packs published after the game’s release.
As for the driving model, a completely new physics engine was introduced that is responsible for aerodynamics, wheels behavior and the suspension. Longtime Gran Turismo veterans will surely notice and appreciate the difference. The developers also put greater emphasis on vehicles modifications and improving their performance. This aspect is made easier by means of the new user interface that is now clearer and more intuitive.
Technical aspects
The audio-visuals did not change significantly as compared to the fifth installment of the series. Admittedly, certain amendments were made to the graphics engine, but the biggest obstacle to achieving better visual experience is of course the power of PlayStation 3, whose performance has already lagged behind an average gaming PC for a long time before the release of Gran Turismo 6. Nevertheless, the talented Japanese made the game as one of the best looking products available on the platform.
