Godzilla is an action-adventure game developed for PlayStation consoles, which features one of the most famous movie monsters – the eponymous Godzilla, who had it is on screen debut in 1954. This game was developed by Japanese studio Natsume and originally published by Bandai Namco Games in Japan (PlayStation 3 version), and several months later released worldwide.
Plot
In the iconic movie from the 1950s, scientists who studied Godzilla discovered that when defeated, the monster becomes a source of powerful energy (dubbed G-Energy), which can be used for the sake of humanity. 60 years later the reborn Godzilla returns on Earth and its main goal is to obtain the energy, necessary for its growth and further evolution. Paradoxically, G-Energy, which was meant to become a means of salvation for the planet, caused the awakening of the monster.
Mechanics
Released for PS4 and PS3, Godzilla offers several game modes, the primary being the so-called Destruction Mode. In this one, the player has to traverse 20 locations with the objective to destroy all G-Energy generators scattered across them. Some missions are time-limited, and each one lets you select any of the available monsters to wreak havoc and fight G-Force squads and bosses as well as other film monsters. As you absorb new sources of energy, Godzilla grows, becomes more powerful and acquires new abilities. The culmination point is a duel with the final boss that is the Legendary Godzilla, modeled after the one from the 1954 film.
Game modes
Apart from the missions, the game features an original mode called King of the Monsters, in which the player has to make it through six locations while fighting waves of monsters and increasingly more powerful bosses, such as Mothra, Jet Jaguar, King Ghidorah, Gigan or Kiryu. All this is complemented with a sandbox mode, called Diorama Mode, in which you can create your own sceneries and fill them with monsters that you unlock during in-game progress.
Technical aspects
Godzilla for PS4 and PS3 offers high-quality 3D graphics. The most notable are the cinematic duels of monsters, presented from several camera angles. The game also features loads of extra content (such as art and monsters bios), which is a real treat for all fans of the franchise. Apart from enhanced graphics, larger maps and the aforementioned option of playing as any of the in-game monsters, the next-gen version of Godzilla for PlayStation 4 offers the all-new Evolution Mode, in which you can use Godzilla’s extra powers unlocked in the Destruction Mode. The developer also introduced exclusive multiplayer for up to 3 players.
