Godfall

Godfall is an action RPG with elements of a looter shooter from Counterplay Games studio, which has a Duelyst card game. The gane departs from the scheme known from the Borderlands and Destiny series, abandoning the shooting and the futuristic world for the sake of hand-to-hand combat in the high fantasy universe.

Plot

Godfall action takes place in a fictional high fantasy world, which is on the verge of extinction. The only hope for its inhabitants is a Knights Order with almost divine powers. Unfortunately, even powerful, legendary armour does not guarantee victory. At the start of the game, the Order is in chaos, and most of the world has been swallowed up by it. The last surviving knights must reach the top of their abilities to stop the apocalypse.

The plot of the game is inspired by classic fantasy stories, including Brandon Sanderson's The Stormlight Archive and the Isaac Asimov Foundation saga.

Mechanics

The authors of Godfall describe their work as a looter slasher: a mixture of slashers in the style of God of War and Devil May Cry with mechanics known from looter shooters like Borderlands series. They also mention Monster Hunter: World as an inspiration. During the game, we are going through diverse elemental worlds and face hordes of enemies. The game focuses on offensive and mobility rather than defensive, but strategy is also somewhat useful, especially in battles with powerful bosses.

In combat, we mainly use five weapons for close combat: double blades, long swords, pole weapons, war hammers and two-handed big swords. Each of these categories is characterised by a different fighting style and special abilities. We also have a shield that we can use to defend ourselves, but also to attack our enemies. According to the looter shooter convention (or rather slasher looter), during the game, we unlock more weapons with different characteristics. Over time, we also get new armour based on the zodiac signs and endowing the hero with powerful abilities. We can improve armour to increase their combat capability. In combination with armament and flexible character classes, this gives many opportunities to personalise your character.

Game modes

Godfall allows you to play alone or in a group of four in cooperation mode.

Technical aspects

Counterplay Games studio used the fourth generation of the popular Unreal Engine technology. Thanks to this, the developers managed to deliver a good-looking game with a high quality three-dimensional graphics.
