Another installment in a series of 2D platformers initiated in 1987. Giana Sisters: Dream Runners was created by Black Forest Games. This time, the studio offers a multiplayer experience, which is based on racing. The game offers five characters, including the titular Giana, a ninja, an owl, a knight and a robot. The racing takes place in 9 diverse locations and our goal is to cross the finish line first.
Giana Sisters: Dream Runners for PC, PS4 and XONE is another installment in the series of platformer games initiated in 1987, when The Great Giana Sisters was released. Giana Sisters: Dream Runners was created by Black Forest Games – an independent German developer popular for Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams, a 2012's game which brought new life to the franchise. The team comprises former members of Spellbound Entertainment – a studio popular for games such as Arcania: Gothic 4 or Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood. Giana Sisters: Dream Runners was inspired by such titles as Micro Machines or SpeedRunners.
Mechanics
Contrary to the previous installments, Giana Sisters: Dream Runners for PC, PS4 and XONE focuses on the online multiplayer. The players race each other here – one's goal is to cross the finish line first, playing as one of the five characters available (the titular Giana, a ninja, an owl, a knight and a robot); however, leaving the opponents far behind is also important. Up to four players can meet in a session and the racing takes place in 9 diverse locations. The game can be played in the local multiplayer or via the Internet.
The basic mechanisms the game is based on were not changed, thus Giana Sisters: Dream Runners for PC, PS4 and XONE is a platformer game played from a 2D perspective. Each of the in-game characters has the same skills and those are supposed to help when competing against others. For example, they can slide under obstacles, as well as launch their bodies into spins, which allows them to cover a short distance in mid-air. It is worth collecting jewels scattered throughout the maps here, because those make it possible to activate a short-lasting speed boost. However, one has to remain cautious, because traps can always slow them down.
Technical aspects
Giana Sisters: Dream Runners for PC, PS4 and XONE offers colorful visuals, as well as carefully designed levels. Although the graphics are three-dimensional here, the events are presented in a 2D perspective.
