Getting over it with Bennett Foddy is a funny arcade game characterized by its high difficulty level. The player’s task is to climb a steep slope with the use of… a hammer and a large pot. The title was developed by an indie developer Bennett Foddy and it harks back to Sexy Hiking, which was created by Jazzuo and released in 2002.
Mechanics
The rules of Getting over it with Bennett Foddy for PC and iOS are trivially simple, although the same cannot be said about the actual gameplay. The protagonist sits in a large pot, which covers him from about the waist down. The powerful arms wield a hammer that we use to move, using the game’s physics and moving in an utterly frustrating and cumbersome manner. Moreover, we can also hook the tip of the hammer to protruding pieces of rock and all sorts of other elements of the environment.
The production created by Bennett Foddy offers around five hours of gameplay (undoubtedly connected with a large dose of frustration and potentially prolonged by cursing and swearing). There is a reward waiting for those that can make it to the top. The gameplay is also accompanied by a philosophical commentary of its developer.
Technical aspects
Getting over it with Bennett Foddy for PC and iOS features very simple graphics. Although the gameplay is purely two-dimensional, the character models and elements of the environment are three-dimensional.
