Geneshift Description
Geneshift is an action game based on Grand Theft Auto 2 and released for PC. It is a work of Nik Nak Studios’ team.
Plot
The story of Geneshift takes place in a future when part of human population developed mutations that resulted in them gaining superhuman powers. The plot is rather simple – we grab the gun, fight zombies and save the world.
Game mechanics
Creators of Geneshift for PC aimed to create a game with the atmosphere of second Grand Theft Auto. We observe the world from a top-down view and use a vast arsenal of over 20 weapons, as well as various vehicles.
Aside from those well-known features, there are some novelties. The biggest one is an introduction of superpowers, as we control mutants and can develop and upgrade their abilities through a complex skill tree. This gives us e.g. the ability to create an energy shield, turn invisible, control the ricochet of our bullets and release poison clouds.
Game modes
Geneshift offers classic story campaign like the one from GTA 2, although we can play not only by ourselves, but also in cooperation with three other players. However, online matches are also important part of the game, letting two teams of 16 compete against each other. We can enjoy classic shooter modes like Deathmatch and Capture the Flag or things like car racing and even Zombie Survival.
Technical aspects
The game offers three-dimensional visuals and top-down view, with camera placed far above characters’ head. It should be noted that developers shared an editor for making new maps, with their authors being awarded if other players use their creations.
