Gear Up for PC is an online third person shooter game in which players compete against each other piloting battle machines of their own design. The game has been developed by the independent Swedish Doctor Entertainment, known for creating Puzzle Dimension. Gear Up is based on the free-to-play business model.
Mechanics
Upon starting the game, one has to create his own machine using a set of components. There are countless options to customize a machine - a player can decide on the appearance of his machine as well as the weapons, mobility, and additional bonuses. According to developers, the game allows a player to try over half a million customization options, however creating the perfect machine is impossible. Each one features different parameters, which might work both in favor and against player’s tactics - these mechanics ensure players to test multiple variations of their machines in the battlefield. For example, a mechanized walker is best for difficult terrain, however, it is relatively slow.
Gameplay is very dynamic and features the arcade model, even though it is based on the laws of physics. Players get to wage battles across diversified maps in three separate game modes: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Conquest, all of which can fit up to 16 players simultaneously. During the game, players gain experience by unlocking countless components for their machines as well as additional warehouse slots. All the items that do not meet one's expectations can be sold or traded for other parts.
Technical aspects
Gear Up for PC is based on the proprietary Traktor graphics engine. The game features high-quality visuals with colorful and cartoonish style. The free version has a number of limitations; however, after purchasing the basic access, a player acquires unlimited warehouse capacity and faster access to mech components. The premium subscription, on the other hand, grants one an immediate access to all the parts and the ability to own three independent machines. Moreover, a player can test his tactics with bots, as well as save screenshots and video recordings of his playthrough.
