Maniac Mansion Description
First adventure game created by George Lucas studio, then known as LucasFillms Ltd. The SCUMM interface (Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion) was created for the needs of the program, on which other companies later successfully modelled themselves. Maniac Mansion was also the first adventure to play more than one character, each playing an equally important role. Although the main character was Dave, at the beginning of the game he had to choose a company of two friends out of six available characters. We had a choice of Wendy, Michael, Syd, Razor, Bernard and Jeff, with completely different characters and possibilities. For example, Bernard won the scientific Olympics and is good at using radio, telephone and computer, while Syd and Razor have musical talents and are able to play various instruments. As a consequence of this choice, the game could be completed in five different ways.
The game's formula is maintained in a slightly surrealistic convention of class C horrors, which are usually more fun than frightening. The action takes place in a completely deserted estate, inhabited by a somewhat crazy scientist, Dr. Fred, his son Edison and two live tentacles (Tentacles). Since twenty years ago, the meteor crashed near the estate, Dr. Fred began to behave more and more strangely, locking himself up alone in his laboratory and not even going out for lunch. Edison was very worried about his father until he came up with an idea how to save him from this strange disease. But before he managed to complete it, Dave arrives at the estate with friends in search of his girlfriend Sandy. She was kidnapped by Dr. Fred, who under the influence of a dark meteorite intended to turn her into a zombie. Since there are several ways to finish the game, it is only up to us how we save Sandy. On May 21, 2004, a group of enthusiasts of old games, united under the name LucasFan Games, published a special remake of Maniac Mansion, which has a significantly enriched audio-visual frame and a modified user interface, bringing the right associations with the second part of the game, entitled Day of the Tentacle.
