Seablip Description
Seablip is an RPG game in which we play the role of a beginner pirate who dreams of becoming a true terror of the sea. The game was developed by an independent developer Jardar Solli.
Mechanics
Seablip gives us a vast, open world that we can freely explore. We start the game with only a modest and imperfect ship at our disposal, but we aim high, so we can immediately plunge into the whirl of adventures. While sailing around the picturesque archipelago, we watch the action from a bird's eye view. After disembarking on land, the camera changes perspective, showing our pirate from the side.
The driving force of the game is exploration and undertaking various quests, among which hunting bosses is the most prominent. By completing missions, we collect gold, which we can spend on hiring sailors. Each of them is unique, and their affiliation with a specific faction guarantees us various bonuses. As we progress, we additionally develop their skills and attributes, making them increasingly valuable over time.
The funds we obtain can be used to purchase new ships, as well as various upgrades for the ones we already own. The latter includes, among other things, magical shields and various weapons, including those that utilize elements (water and electricity are a truly deadly combination for our enemies) or offer special abilities, such as breaking through the hull.
We often have to fight fierce sea battles. During them, like in Advance Wars series, the screen is divided into two parts. We watch the ships from the side along with their crews working around the guns. During skirmishes, we must not only skillfully use our arsenal, but also maneuver the ship. For example, increasing speed makes us a more difficult target. Among the adversaries who stand in our way, the aforementioned bosses take the lead. Each of them has a unique set of strengths and weaknesses, as well as their own ship and individual tactics they use in battle.
During breaks from sea voyages, we can instead devote ourselves to somewhat more prosaic activities, such as fishing or treasure hunting and opening chests, which are presented in the form of ingenious mini-games.
Technical aspects
The two-dimensional graphic design of Seablip was created using pixel art technique.
