Besiege: The Splintered Sea

Besiege: The Splintered Sea is an expansion to the logic-simulation game titled Besiege released in 2020, which allows to create innovative war machines. The DLC, in which water plays a leading role, was developed by the authors of the base version of the game, namely the independent team Spiderling Studios.

Plot

Besiege: The Splintered Sea brings a new campaign consisting of 10 levels, in which we reach the titular sea. The heart of this territory is an archipelago inhabited by people called Offlanders, ruled by the sinister Admiral Drasckar. Our task is to confront the forces of the tyrant and destroy his beloved galleon and powerful fortress.

Mechanics

Besiege: The Splintered Sea brings a number of new possibilities related to the construction of machines. The add-on allows us to construct our own boats, ships and submarines, using elements such as buoys (affecting the behavior of our creations on and under the water surface), propeller, sail and oars (allowing the ship to move), rudder (facilitating maneuvers) or a harpoon launcher (allowing us to attract enemies).

Our structures behave according to the principles of hydrodynamics. The physics engine simulates how water resists, which depends primarily on the shape and density of the ships. While on the surface our units are tossed by waves and may encounter traps and enemy forces. Once submerged, we must deal with the presence of monsters and other dangers lurking in the depths.

Game modes

Besiege: The Splintered Sea offers both a campaign and a sandbox in which we do not have to pay attention to any restrictions. We can play alone or in multiplayer mode - over the Internet or on a local network. Additionally, the DLC offers a level editor, where we can create our own locations.

Besiege: The Splintered Sea is a non-standalone expansion, so it requires the base version of Besiege to run.
