Embark Description
Embark is a game that combines the features of strategy and action adventure game. In this game we deal with colony management. The developers focused on a complex simulation of the world, inspired by such games as Dwarf Fortress, Minecraft and The Sims. This game was developed and released by the independent studio Overly Complicated Games.
Mechanics
In Embark, our task is to build the best possible colony. The player has the ability to influence the shape of the location (as in e.g. Minecraft), construct buildings (you also have to take into account e.g. sewage - we build aqueducts and pumps) and manage colonists. What's important is that we don't play the game as an impersonal entity - we control one of the people and can move around the game world. Thanks to the system of random map generation, they look a bit different each time.
While playing we also have to take care of various needs of the inhabitants (e.g. hunger - we can hunt animals or tame them, as well as cultivate various types of plants) and ensure their safety. Interestingly, our pupils have their own lives and establish relationships. In the course of the game we also come across other factions with which we can fight or cooperate and trade.
In the game you can find an advanced crafting system, allowing you to create a variety of items from the available resources. We also have a fully functional combat system - the player can aim at different parts of the body, causing effects depending on the place he hits, as well as use special skills. It is worth noting that enemies also have various tricks at their disposal (they can e.g. fly or climb walls).
Game modes
We can only play Embark alone. The core of the game is single player mode.
Technical aspects
Embark has quite simple, three-dimensional graphic design. The graphics are a bit like Minecraft (the game world is built of clearly visible, square blocks) and do not have too much detail or technological advancement.
