Dead Static Drive Description
Dead Static Drive is a top-down action game that combines elements of adventure games, survival games, and horror. The title was developed for 5 years as a project of independent creator Mike Blackney, who was inspired by classic racing games and zombie films. Work on the game accelerated significantly when the developer teamed up with the Australian studio Fanclub. The key elements of the game are the journey on Route 666 and the struggle for survival in a world dominated by monsters from hell. The authors themselves call the game GTC - Grand Theft Cthulhu. The game combines adventure elements, based on uncertain relationships with other survivors, with the escape from the tentacle monsters. There is also the possibility of stealing cars, which serve as the safest way to travel through dangerous wilderness.
Plot
In Dead Static Drive, we play the role of a man who wants to get to his family. For this purpose, we go on a journey on road number 666, but it is not just a relaxing ride. There are monsters from hell all over the place, and in the face of the cataclysm we never know whether the person we have just met wants to help us or is looking for a way to use us.
Mechanics
In Dead Static Drive, a combination of survival horror and action game, we travel along Route 666 and witness strange and terrifying events.
Given that one of the inspirations for creating Dead Static Drive was classic racing games, it makes sense that the game is largely based on driving the vehicles. The car is the safest and fastest means of transport available to us. In the game, we can find different vehicles, each of which has unique characteristics, strengths and weaknesses. Of course, nothing stands in the way of stealing cars from other survivors, but they will certainly not like it.
The people in Dead Static Drive are an unknowable thing. For obvious reasons, we should be wary of monsters that wait for us and preventatively shoot them, cut off their tentacles, or simply avoid them. For other survivors, it is not so obvious. In the game, as in life, we can never be sure whether the people we meet want to help us or just use us to achieve their goals.
Considering all the dangers, the best idea would be to get in the car and drive ahead without stopping; however, this is where the survival elements of the game come into play. Not only does our character have to take care of basic physiological needs - without a cup of strong coffee we won't get far, and after coffee we could also jump to the toilet - we must also remember that our car needs regular refueling. The above gameplay elements force us to make regular stops and explore the environment.
In most games with a top-down view, we are dealing with a flat, rather one-level world. However, Dead Static Drive follow the example of games such as Seven: The Days Long Gone or Divinity: Original Sin II, which have a multi-level exploration. Here we can also climb on roofs or seemingly inaccessible elements of the environment. In most cases, our curiosity is rewarded with useful items.
Game modes
Dead Static Drive is a single-player game.
Technical aspects
The graphic style in Dead Static Drive is a bit like the one known from Oxenfree. For both of these games, the developers presented us with beautiful, though economical graphics, bathed in pastel colors.
