Buoyancy Description
Buoyancy is a representative of the city builder genre created by the independent studio Devs on a Boat. Our task is to bring the marine community living on rafts to glory. However, this is made difficult by diseases, fires, storms and even people (pirates or other floating sediments).
Plot
Buoyancy isa reminiscent of the Waterworld movie from 1995. The gameplay is located on an oceanic planet; and the floating remains of civilization suggest that the planet has been hit by some unknown cataclysm. Humanity lives in small communities living on improvised rafts. The survivors are trying to find valuable resources wherever possible. Floating sediments are plagued by natural hazards (such as illnesses or storms) and by attacks of pirates. The player takes control of one of these settlements.
Mechanics
Buoyancy is a city builder, which means that in the game we face the challenge of creating a vibrant settlement that will be able to resist adversity.
We start the game in Buoyancy with only one raft on which stands the town hall and a few employees. Our task is to expand this settlement, creating efficient production chains - for example, if we want to produce bread, we first need to hire a diver who mines the earth, thanks to the land we can build a greenhouse in which we can plant grain, then we traditionally build a mill and a bakery, as a result of which our residents can eat bread. Similar sequences of dependencies in Buoyancy is more, and all need to work garbage.
Garbage is the main raw material in the game. We obtain from them such valuable materials as pieces of metal, plastic and wood. After proper processing of floating sea debris, we can build more and more complex buildings. We obtain materials in various ways. The remains of other settlements or ships float on the surface of the sea, which our people raise automatically when they touch them. Some of these resources are small, one-off injections of building material, which disappear immediately after collection; others are larger deposits, for which we need suitable buildings and some time to extract them (but they will run out of time too). As the settlement grows, we gain specialists who will partly independent us from the raw materials we encounter at sea and will obtain them themselves, but it is a much longer process. The fact that resources are becoming scarcer means that our community must remain in constant motion in order to grow.
When expanding the settlement, we must not forget to take care of the needs of its inhabitants. They are determined by three factors: happiness, hunger and health. By construct the right buildings and providing them with a variety of food, we will ensure a healthy and strong population; otherwise, we will quickly run out of labour, because the settlers will be overwhelmed by disease and hunger.
In the game we also meet other people who have different attitudes towards us. Most often rafts with survivors stand in our way, and we can join our community, take captivity and even eat. Another form of meetings are small trading points scattered around the game world, where we will be able to exchange our raw materials. From time to time we will also meet other settlements, which can trade with us, deliver settlers, or attack, if we come too close to one, and she will consider us an easy target (we can repay the same). The last form of interaction with survivors are pirate attacks, which cyclically invade our community, and as our settlement grows, they become stronger.
