Don't Starve: Nintendo Switch Edition Description
Don't Starve: Nintendo Switch Edition is an adventure survival game that takes place in a terrifying and a very dangerous world. Players are traveling through this world alone by assuming the role of a lost, very creative scientist. The game was developed by Canadian studio Klei Entertainment, the creators of games like Mark of the Ninja, Shank, Shank 2, Oxygen Not Included, and Invisible, Inc. Don’t Starve originally debuted in 2013 on PC, where it was highly acclaimed. Since then the title was ported to consoles and mobile platforms. It also received many patched and expansions that added new features.
Plot
The players assume the role of Wilson, a very curious inventor and scientist. During one of his experiments, he encounters a weird radio transmission. The mysterious man speaks through the speaker and informs Wilson how to build an unusual machine. When Wilson builds it and activates it, he is being taken to a far-away, unknown world. He learns that the voice from the radio belongs to a demon named Maxwell. These events force Wilson to use all his knowledge and skills to survive in the unpleasant realm and find a way back home.
Mechanics
Don't Starve: Nintendo Switch Edition is a classic survival game in which players are gathering resources, building new constructions and items and fighting hostile environment and unpleasant weather conditions. The action is presented from an isometric perspective, which is an unusual choice for the genre. The vast locations are procedurally generated each time the game starts, making each session with the game unique. The presence of Reign of Giants and Shipwrecked expansions expands the gameplay with new features like biomes, seasons of the year, enemies and crafting materials. The players can also move to a tropical archipelago and travel between islands on boats. The rewards for progress in the game include new playable characters. Each of them features unique special skills like being fireproof or having increased strength.
Technical aspects
Similarly to previous games developed by Klei Entertainment, Don’t Starve: Nintendo Switch Edition focuses on humor. This can be seen in the design of characters and locations and in pop culture references. The two-dimensional, cartoon-like graphics feature unique style inspired by many western independent comics. The title game is a direct port of previous versions of the game. The game supports standard controllers and can be played both in stationary and mobile mode.
