Thumper Description
Thumper for PS4, SWITCH and etc. is a game created by Drool, a studio consisting of two people. Marc Flury is a programmer and a designer, while Brian Gibson is a music composer. The developers have been cooperating with Harmonix earlier, so each of them can show off their rich experience with creating music games.
Similarly to the other games from this genre, Thumper doesn’t offer an elaborate story layer, but the thing that we receive is bizarre enough. The player assumes the role of a space beetle, and his task is to defeat a great, crazy head. CRAKHED comes from the future and is a danger to the world.
Mechanics
Thumper for PS4, SWITCH and etc. doesn’t differ much from other games in the genre. The action is presented from a third person perspective. The player travels along a predetermined path, and he has to press buttons in the rhythm of music and jump along the parallel tracks to avoid traps and catch various bonuses. From time to time, we are treated with a boss encounter. The incredibly dynamic gameplay is accompanied by a point counter, evaluating our actions on the fly, with the end result depending mainly on observation skills and reflex. The game has been divided into successive stages of increasing difficulty and different designs.
Technical aspects
Thumper has been released for personal computers, as well as PlayStation 4. The game makes use of the virtual reality goggles, but they are not a mandatory position. During the gameplay, we are treated with quick electronic music, while the visual side is dominated by chromed planes and psychedelic color mixing.
Misc.
The title has received a collector’s edition. It includes a code authorizing the download of the game for the chosen platform, and the official soundtrack released on vinyl, with a cover created by Robert Beatty.
