Mechanics

As every year, the new edition brings a whole bunch of upgrades allowing total command over the virtual farm. There are new crops now: sunflower and soy. The players can now use “their own” hands instead of machines to do the simplest tasks, such as relocating wood. A new possibility to earn money are “side-quests”, offered by other farmers, controlled by the AI. A lot of new hardware has appeared in this game: the developers give the players over 200 machines from 60 fully licensed manufacturers, including both companies already known from the previous parts (New Holland or Ponsse), as well as entirely new (Massey-Ferguson ir Lely). The vehicles can be upgraded both in terms of visuals, as well as technical capabilities. Machines can now be leased as well. The biggest of the goods can be transported on freight trains, which were never available in the series before.

Simulation

Farming Simulator 17: Big Bud DLC is an expansion to Farming Simulator 17, developed by the creators of the original game, GIANTS Software. Big Bud DLC requires the base game to be playable. This add-on introduces new agricultural machines like the two enormous tractors: Big Bud 450 and even bigger Big Bud 747. The latter one, designed in 1977, is over eight meters long, six meters wide, weights more than fifty tons, and has over 900 horsepower. Unlike Big Bud 450, the 747 is no longer used and the only 747 tractor ever built is currently displayed at the Heartland museum. Due to their size and weight, both machines have a very different 'driving feel' than the ones from the base game. In addition to these two colossal machines, Big Bud DLC introduces a couple of other tractors, spreaders, and ploughs that we can use to make our job on the farm easier.

The only fun in Farming Simulator 17 comes from you, and when you need to actively search for fun in a game, you know you’re not dealing with a good one.

Farm animals, food crops and even get in a bit of forestry. Easy to get into, friendly to play and a nice distraction.

TheXboxHub: 2.5 / 5 by Richard Dobson

Farming Simulator 17 is an unusual beast. It receives critical acclaim from its die-hard fans and rightly so because the mechanics of the actual farming is very impressive. But it does seem to fall short in most of the other departments, which would arguably be where those who have a piqued interest are likely to be drawn in. I found the game interesting, but I wouldn’t necessarily use the word ‘fun’. I was in the piqued interest pool as opposed to the die-hards, but there certainly isn’t enough included to really keep me invested in the day-to-day activities of running my farm.
