The title was created by Cyanide studios, the creators of many cycling games, the Blood Bowl series and the Of Orcs and Men RPG. The protagonist of the game is Styx, a character known from Of Orcs and Men.

Styx: Master of Shadows for PC, PS4 and XONE is a third-person perspective action game in which the player assumes the role of Styx, a two hundred year old goblin assassin. The player is tasked with sneaking up to the Tower of Akenash and stealing the valuable Amber from there. The game was developed by French studio Cyanide, known for creating such games like Of Orcs and Men, Blood Bowl series and various sports games. Notably, the Styx character appeared before in the above mentioned Of Orcs and Men. The old but still extremely agile goblin was one of the main playable characters.

Plot

The main objective of the protagonist is reaching the heart of the Tower of Akenash which is a giant fortress. In its core humans and elves are hiding the Tree that is a source of the valuable Amber. Obtaining the Amber is the only way for Styx to become rich. As the story progress, the player will also learn the past of the goblin he controls.

Mechanics

Styx: Master of Shadows for PC, PS4 and XONE is an action game focused on stealth and silent elimination of enemies. Styx can hide in the shadow and he is extremely effective when it comes to using dagger. The developers implemented a character development system which allows the player to develop goblin’s abilities in six different directions. One can also use the magic Amber which provides various special powers like disappearing and creating one’s clones that disorient the guards. What makes Styx: Master of Shadows different from other stealth games is levels that are large not only horizontally, but vertically as well. It allows completing missions in various ways and it gives the players greater movement freedom.

Technical aspects

Styx: Master of Shadows for PC, PS4 and XONE has decent graphics in which shadows and dark corners that create grim atmosphere are very important. These areas are occasionally lighted with lanterns, fireplaces and torches.
