Galcon Fusion is a simple arcade game, whose gameplay is based on the competition of players (it is also possible to play with a computer-controlled opponent) driving a fleet of spacecraft. There are many planets on the board. Initially, one of them is under the control of each army. The task is to take over all heavenly bodies before a rival does it.
Each of the planets has been assigned a number. It means how many spaceships have to be sent by the player from the controlled area in order to colonize it. After reaching the target fleet symbolized by triangular objects, the planet begins to produce allied units. This allows us to flood the neutral and occupied parts of space faster and faster. Over time, thanks to the automatic creation of a fleet in controlled bases, it becomes so numerous that it is very difficult for a rival to regain control of a given planet. Planning and rapid decision making are therefore important.
Eight gameplay modes have been introduced in Galcon Fusion. Each of them modifies the standard rules to some extent. In addition to the classic fight against a computer opponent, time trials and the fight against two opponents have also been prepared. Among the available variations of mechanics are available, among other things, clashes in which the planets are in constant motion, ships are subject to collisions (in normal mode "penetrate") or the enemy fleet is invisible.
Game developers have prepared an extensive multiplayer mode for up to twelve players. In addition to the above mentioned ways of playing, it also allows for team competition.
In terms of visuals, Galcon Fusion is reminiscent of productions such as Osmos and Geometry Wars. It uses high resolution 2D graphics. Planets and ships are presented in a simplified way. It also introduced the ability to switch to "retro" mode stylized on games from the 80s.
