Galactic Civilizations IV: Supernova PC

Galactic Civilizations IV: Supernova is a standalone expansion to a 4X space strategy released in 2022. Both the expansion and the base game were developed by Stardock.

Mechanics

The game is set in the 24th century. The players control a civilization in the beginning stages of galactic conquest, thanks to the creation of a drive system capable of exceeding the speed of light.

Just like the base game, Galactic Civilizations IV: Supernova is a 4X turn-based strategy game. Our objectives include space exploration, expanding our empire, acquiring resources and exterminating enemy civilizations.

As befitting a standalone expansion, Supernova retains all the mechanics of Galactic Civilizations IV while adding plenty of new features of its own. Space battles have been reworked and heavily expanded. Star sectors mechanics received the same treatment - now, players can play in several sectors simultaneously.

Other new features include a cultural development system for civilizations and new governance politics, which give us greater control over the empire. Planets are also now divided into two types - main planets, which are managed in a usual way, and colonies, the only purpose of which is to acquire resources. This lets us create great galactic powers without the need to manually control every single planet.

Players can now also finally create multi-species civilizations and recruit leaders, each of whom has different traits that affect the growth of their subordinates. The tech tree was also significantly expanded.

Game modes

Galactic Civilizations IV: Supernova supports singleplayer and multiplayer. Multiplayer can be both cooperative and competitive.

Technical aspects

Supernova is a standalone expansion. This means that you don't need to own the base version of Galactic Civilizations IV to play it.
