Fragmented is a science-fiction survival simulator – a video game genre that has become increasingly popular over the past several years. The player assumes the role of a clone of a person, who was supposed to join a colonization expedition. Something went wrong though and the main protagonist ended up crashing on a dangerous alien planet. Now, he has to cope with this situation with only his hands, wits, and all the resources he can gather.
Developed by Above and Beyond Technologies, Fragmented for PC is a survival sandbox resembling games such as ARK: Survival Evolved and Conan: Exiles. Gameplay mechanics build on gathering resources and creating items as well as hideouts. Players get to cooperate and compete against each other.
Fragmented for PC takes players to a science-fiction alien world filled with many dangers. The character one gets to control is a clone of a colonization expedition member. Now, under unknown circumstances, the main protagonist wakes up all alone and without equipment. Having at his disposal only his hands and wits – hiding fractions of his memories – he has to try to survive on this desolate world. The stakes are high since his success or failure will affect not only himself but also the entire humanity.
Fragmented for PC is a classic survival sandbox game. A player begins his adventure with collecting basic materials and resources, which allow him to create new useful items. Gradual exploration, defeating consecutive enemies, and collecting pieces of equipment improve the character’s statistics and enable him to learn new skills (such as constructing, electronics, hand-to-hand combat, and shooting), which become handy when completing all the challenges at hand.
In the PC release of Fragmented one can play on servers featuring various gameplay rules. If a player is interested in cooperating with others and handling all the in-game challenges together, they can do so. Moreover, the game offers the opportunity to compete against other players using dedicated servers set up by Above and Beyond Technologies. Players can also create their own variation of the gameplay based on their personal preferences.
Fragmented introduces also an offline single player mode.
Fragmented for PC is based on Unreal Engine 4. The game is free-to-play and for several months before its premiere, it has been available via Steam Early Access – within this time, Above and Beyond has worked on 30 updates for the game.
