Fragile Existence

Fragile Existence is a RTS 4X space strategy. Game was developed by Fragile Continuum studio.

Plot

The action begins in the year 2713. Kuiper early-warning sentries detected an unknown alien armada heading towards Solar System. Aggressors needed less than 24 hours to annihilate most of humanity and turn civilization into rubble. The player takes command of the last surviving fleet and his task is to guarantee the survival of the race.

Mechanics

Fragile Existence is a real-time strategy game that requires you to manage your fleet, acquire resources and command units during battles. When we start the game, the human population is only a few thousand people, so any counteroffensive is impossible. The player's priority is survival, which forces the fleet to escape into the depths of space.

During the game we have to travel between systems, collecting resources on the way and strengthening the forces. Alien armada is always on our heels. As soon as we enter a new sector, a countdown begins till the moment when enemies catch up with us, forcing further escape. The campaign is highly non-linear. The player has freedom to make decisions about the direction of escape, which is helped by scouts who inform us about the conditions in the surrounding areas.

In Fragile Existence there is no division into space and planetary maps. We can freely zoom the camera on the surface of the planets, where the gameplay resembles classic RTS. We have to gather resources, build temporary bases and fight with the original inhabitants of the worlds, who don't like to be robbed of valuable elements. Battles also take place in space and often at the same time, which requires a lot of attention.

The most valuable resources in the fleet are people and place on the decks of the ships. Fortunately, our units have a modular design, allowing us to change configurations and objectives. However, the production of many components requires large processing facilities, so it is necessary to do it in temporary factories on the surfaces of planets. Recycling old parts and raw materials also plays a key role.

During the game we spend a lot of time managing the crew of the fleet. Each death is costly in the long run, and survival requires constant investment in developing the skills of subordinates and training them in specific specialties.

Fragile Existence offers only single player mode.
