Forged of Blood is a turn-based RPG in which the player takes on the role of a prince who wants to regain power in the land of Attiras. The game focuses on tactical combat and storyline decisions that will influence the further course of the story.
Forged of Blood is a fantasy-based tactical RPG, the debut game of Critical Forge studio.
Plot
The action presented in Forged of Blood was set in the land of Attiras, ruled by the humans. One day the king who ruled this world is murdered. The player is the son of an overthrown leader trying to regain the throne.
Mechanics
Forged of Blood is a typical tactical RPG. The adventure is divided into two segments. The first one is played out on the world map. There the player can see the distribution of forces, manage recruited team members and choose the next mission. The second one is the realization of the chosen task itself. During that time the player talks to the NPCs he meets and fights in turn-based mode.
An important aspect of the gameplay are the dialogue choices. Each of these influences the perception of the protagonist and can lead to different consequences (e.g. to the desertion of the player's subordinate soldiers). In Forged of Blood, there are no good or bad decisions. Instead, it was decided to introduce a triaxial split that takes into account such attitudes as rationalism, hedonism and altruism.
Combat in the game places great emphasis on tactical action. During battles, the player must plan the movements of his team and skillfully use objects placed on the battlefield. The game offers a total of nine types of weapons. Each of them has its own skill tree to increase its effectiveness.
Videos and Screens
TechRaptor: 5.5 / 10 by Robert Grosso
Forged of Blood has a solid foundation, but the games mechanics don't always mesh together, often causing too many problems with the games own ambitions.
Digitally Downloaded: 3 / 5 by Matt Sainsbury
Forged of Blood is ambitious well beyond its means, and it has so many systems at play at once that there are moments where, mechanically, they fall down.
Thumb Culture: 8 / 10 by Craig M. Patten
Forged of Blood is a very good Xcom-like game, using a lot of different new mechanics. Overall, I like the difficulty of the game, and the art style isn’t hard to look at, making for long sessions of “just one more turn”. A lot of the little things about it, really make it unique, from the spell crafting, to how you can level up using a classless system. The gameplay is very tough, but when you win, you have a feeling of satisfaction. I’m going to give Forged of Blood the Thumb Culture Gold award, as it may not appeal to a lot of people, but fans of tactical RPGs are going to love it.
