Forever Ago is an adventure game from independent Third Shift studio. It is a walking simulator, in which we play the role of an older man named Alfred. The protagonist goes on a journey to atone for his mistakes and come to terms with his fate.
Forever Ago is the debut adventure game by independent developer Third Shift. It is a two-person studio created by two best friends. The game takes us on a journey through the USA. The expedition aims to help the main character, Alfred, accept some of the events of his life. As this is a game from the so-called "walking simulators" trend, the developers paid much attention to the atmosphere. The game offers a wide range of landscapes - from deserts to ice-covered landscapes; voice characters known to the voice actors.
Plot
There are many ways to deal with life's tragedies. The hero of Forever Ago, Alfred, decided to go on a trip around the country. His dog and camera accompany him. Although the protagonist went on the expedition alone (not counting his four-legged companion), it does not mean that he is lonely. On our way we meet many characters - who knows, maybe some of them will become our friends.
Mechanics
Forever Ago is a game in which history and atmosphere play a major role. During the journey we visit different places and meet different people. Thanks to the slow exploration we get to know the history of both the locations where we are located and the people we meet.
Apart from the dog that accompanies us everywhere (which we can stroke) we always have our loyal camera with us. It is used to take pictures of people and views we encounter on our way, but it also has an additional use. Thanks to it we have a chance to solve environmental puzzles, which occasionally appear on our way.
Technical aspects
Third Shift has devoted a lot of attention to creating an eye-pleasing graphic design; its style is reminiscent of a Firewatch game.
The developers have not forgotten about the audio side of the game. Clark Aboud (Slay the Spire) is responsible for the soundtrack. We'll also hear some recognizable voices such as Dave Pettitt (Valiant Hearts: The Great War, Frostpunk), Daniel Amerman (League of Legends) and Cissy Jones (Firewatch, Life is Strange).
