Forest of Sleep for iOS and PC is an adventure game that borrows a lot from Russian fairy tales and legends. It is a work of Twisted Tree Games studio, known from its Proteus.
Plot
Forest of Sleep tells story of three children who travel a land filled with mysterious places and magical creatures. During their journey, they must traverse an enchanted forest, visit strange kingdoms, fulfill unusual requests of strangers and sing many songs during campfire nights.
While the game has main plotline, most of its content comes in form of short, standalone stories inspired by Russian folklore.
Mechanic
Forest of Sleep for iOS and PC is a pure adventure game, without any arcade elements. This means that gameplay focuses on exploration and solving puzzles. Our interactions with characters and items dynamically shape the game’s plot, leading to completely different results in form of unique stories generated through player’s decisions. Interestingly, the world of Forest of Sleep is ruled by truly fairy-tale-like laws, so we must know and make use of those rules.
The game offers the travelling system that simulates moving between locations and forces us to manage our resources. However, that does not mean the title strands toward survival genre, and this feature’s purpose is to vary gameplay and give it specific rhythm.
Technical aspects
Visuals of Forest of Sleep are quite unusual. Developers took inspirations from Polish drawer Janusz Stanny, Bohemian illustrator Štepán Zavrel and Russian animator Yuri Norshteyn. This resulted in eye-catching, two-dimensional style that makes this game stand out.
Additionally, the game for iOS and PC lacks any dialogues or classic textual narration. Instead, we learn the entire story through visual means.
