Floodland is a strategy game with survival elements, in which we take control of a group of survivors after a climatic disaster. It was developed by the Polish studio Vile Monarch, known for such projects as the Oh...Sir! series or the games Growing Up and Weedcraft Inc. It was published, on the other hand, by Ravenscourt.

Plot

Floodland presents a grim vision of the future, in which the Earth as we know it is in ruins. Climate change has led to a real catastrophe, as a result of which the level of water in the seas and oceans has risen drastically, the coasts have been flooded, and huge tracts of land have been replaced by islands and swamps. We command a group of survivors who are trying to find a place for themselves in this new, though not necessarily wonderful, world.

Game mechanics

In Floodland we observe the action from a top-down view. Everything related to managing a group of survivors rests on our shoulders. Our eyes should be on providing our charges with water, food and shelter. For the latter serves them a settlement, which we expand by acquiring resources and constructing new structures. With time, specialists begin to appear in our community, which allows us to research new technologies and work on various improvements.

All this is not easy, however, as resources are limited, as is space or manpower. Besides, standing at the head of a growing community requires setting laws that not everyone is comfortable with. To prevent the formation of divisions within our community (which has a disastrous effect on its productivity), it is necessary to look after the interests of all groups, which unfortunately is not always possible. So we have to decide whether we will introduce a rule of the hard hand or a vision of equality and fraternity.

Over time, we can begin to explore the world and its secrets, island by island trying to rebuild what has been lost. Since the successive maps, as well as the events our community takes part in, are procedurally generated, each game here is different from the others.
