Fighting EX Layer Description
Fighting EX Layer is a fighting game developed by Japanese studio Arika. The title references the most famous series of this developer – Street Fighter EX series.
Mechanics
The game is a classic 2.5D fighting game – the graphics are three-dimensional, but the gameplay mechanics are 2-D. The gameplay is focused on one-on-one battles fought between characters selected from a long list of fighters. Each of these fighters features unique combat style and set of combos and special attacks.
The roster of playable characters looks interesting. Many fighters were introduced in the Street Fighter EX series. Arika kept the rights to characters that the studio developed for this series and which weren’t previously available in the Street Fighter franchise. Thanks to that, the players can control warriors like Kairi, Garuda, Skullomania, Darun Mister, Allen Snider, and Shirase. Many newcomers are available as well.
Fighting EX Layer expands the gameplay mechanics from previous Arika games. Guard Break, a technique that enables the player to break the guard and stun his or her opponent, is very important during the fights.
Gougi system is a novelty. Players can choose from five special effects that provide various bonuses and special skills. Activating them requires fulfilling special conditions and they work only for a limited time. This mechanic enables the player to adapt each warrior to individual preferences.
Game modes
The game features a singleplayer mode, local multiplayer, and online multiplayer.
Technical aspects
Fighting EX Layer features attractive three-dimensional graphics powered by Unreal Engine. The game uses cartoon-like style.
