Who doesn't know Rockstar and their crown games from the Grand Theft Auto series? Edge of Reality has developed a very similar game called Fear & Respect.
The man responsible for Fear & Respect is John Singleton - creator of such films as Boyz N the Hood or 2 Fast 2 Furious. Another well-known person employed to create the game is a very popular American rapper - Snoop Dogg. He lends a voice to the main character named Goldie. The character has just left the prison and his main task is to rebuild his position in the city. Shooting, street fights or car thefts are the daily bread for our gangster.
An interesting element, which we have not seen in other games of this type, is the ability to affect the plot. It is through the decisions we make during the game that the story changes. Whether or not we help a random person in a mission decides, for example, whether he or she does the same for us in the future. Similar situations can be found here at every corner.
The place of Goldie's struggle is sunny Los Angeles. In order to make the gameplay more realistic, the devs accurately depicted many locations from Los Angeles. Exploring them we can traverse Creenshaw, Compton or Watts. Another precisely reproduced element are weapons, which we use to remove unnecessary people or objects on our way. However, shooting is not the only way to exterminate enemies. A very important role is also played by hand-to-hand combat.
Fear & Respect has implemented a reputation system. Through our decisions, we receive "respect" or "fear" points. It is thanks to them that we are perceived in the streets in the right way and whether the 'countrymen' listen to Goldie for the sake of respect or whether their fear him depends solely on us.
Fear & Respect is very similar in visual terms to its Rockstar-made "brothers". All elements of the environment, such as trees, buildings and moving objects (cars or people) are made in great detail. Music in the game is, of course, hip-hop, perfectly building the gangster atmosphere of the game.
