Fata Deum is a real-time strategy representing a sub-genre known as "god game". The game was developed by the independent studio 42 Bits Entertainment and was successful funded on Kickstarter.

Plot

Fata Deum takes us to a fantastic universe. In the course of the game, we play the role of a young god, who must learn to win followers to prove his worth in front of other deities. His enemies are personifications of fertility, pleasure, violence and deception, inspired by the beliefs of the inhabitants of ancient Europe, among others.

Mechanics

At Fata Deum, we're watching the action from the top-down view. The game takes place on vast and varied maps, on which we compete with other deities for followers. As mortals have free will, we can leave them alone, intervening only from time to time. We can also devote ourselves to so-called micro-management, influencing the actions of each one of them. The gameplay was divided into two phases. While during the day people are busy with their affairs and interact with each other, at night we have time to manipulate their dreams; in this way we influence what they will do after sunrise.

Our main goal is to get more supporters than our opponents before the timeout, which we can achieve in two ways. If we want to be a good god, we have to focus on construct thriving settlements protected by observation towers and surrounding defense walls, developing culture and economy and build world wonders that prove our value. The deity adored by the people should also take care of the health and productivity of its followers. On the other hand, there is nothing to prevent him from becoming a divine tyrant, who will be arousing fear both among his fanatics and among the followers of the other gods. To this end, it is necessary, above all, to establish a mighty army consisting not only of mortals ready to give their lives for us, but also of demons spreading fear in the ranks of the enemy. Besides, the evil deity should focus on weakening or murdering its enemies, as well as on spreading fear and equating everything its enemies will raise with the earth.

An interesting aspect of Fata Deum is the almost complete lack of user interface. The role of the cursor is played here by a luminous goblin, the amount of raw materials collected can be seen simply by looking at the warehouses, and weakened mortals move slower than the lively, full of strength followers.

Game modes

The core of the Fata Deum game is a role-playing campaign, in which the creators gradually familiarize us with the next elements of mechanics and tell the story of our deity. Besides, there is a skirmish mode, where you can play freely on the map of your choice.

Technical aspects

Fata Deum has high quality colorful graphics. You can enjoy both pleasing and varied map designs as well as richly animated characters and varied building designs. The camera can also be instantly moved from the level of a single settlement to a view of the entire land.
