Fall of Angels is a fantasy RPG released on AND and iOS. The title was developed by independent developer Kevin Mitchell in collaboration with graphic designer Lee Pattison.
Plot
The action of Fall of Angels takes place in a fantasy land known as Tellus. The main character is a soldier named Sariel, one of the leading warriors of the army of the world's largest church. This organization is so powerful that it replaces all other forms of power in the areas it occupies. The plot begins when an object falls from the sky and lands on the border. Both the church and the neighbor empire send expeditions to the site with a mission to investigate the case. Sariel is leading the expedition organized by his nation, but when he reaches his destination, he discovers that his superiors have lied to him and everything he believed in turns out to be a lie. The hero refuses to obey orders and as a result, he immediately becomes the number one enemy of the church, whose priests won't rest until they take his life.
Mechanics
In terms of gameplay mechanics, Fall of Angels draws inspiration from Japanese RPGs. The world is big, but not entirely open, and the fun is about traveling from village to village, performing tasks, defeating enemies in dungeons and unraveling the extensive plot. The game also has a character progression system, which is divided into two separate groups. Skills are improved by using them, but at the same time, we also accumulate experience points, for which we develop basic statistics and advance to the next levels.
The combat system was implemented in an interesting way. It is based on turns but is enriched with slight arcade elements. We command a party of heroes and each of them has an automatically regenerating bar - once it gets full, we can perform an action. When we give an order, we have to draw symbols indicated by icons appearing on the screen. If we succeed, our attacks and spells get even stronger. An additional attraction are numerous ingenious logical puzzles modeled on adventure games.
